On November 28th 1929, Admiral Richard Evelyn Byrd (USN) became the first man to reach the South Pole by air. This feat secured him his place in the record books and the hearts of countless people around the world who were inspired by his expedition and the stories of romantic adventure that would follow. By that time, Admiral Byrd, a naval aviator, had already completed an expedition to the North Pole, and made an attempt to be the first man to fly across the Atlantic Ocean.

The new Kobold R.E. Byrd Automatic pays tribute to this American hero of yesteryear by combining retro styling with U.S. craftsmanship. Housed in a 41mm U.S.-made stainless steel case, the R.E. Byrd Automatic is powered by an automatic movement and features a highly legible minimalist dial (available in Deep Black, Snow White and Fuselage Gray. Coated with anti-U.V. lacquer, the dial is designed to withstand the test of time. The R.E. Byrd Automatic features a scratch-resistant, domed sapphire crystal treated with purple-hued antireflective coating to enhance legibility.

The R.E. Byrd Automatic arrives in a wooden collector's box and is fitted with a hand-stitched calfskin strap with screw-locked and signed stainless steel buckle. The watch is covered by a 5-year warranty.
